    Singh Still Singing “Equal Rating”

    Monday, May 5th, 2008

Lehman Brother analyst Inder Singh of Lehman Brothers is maintaining his “equal weight” rating on Nortel but reduced his target price to $17.00 to $15.50.
In a research report, Singh said Nortel’s Q1 revenues and EPS were ahead of the estimates and the consensus. That said, he reduced his EPS estimates for 2008 and 2009 to [...]

    Merriman Bullish on Nortel

    Monday, May 5th, 2008

Buoyed by year-over-year improvements in profitability in the wake of first-quarter results, Merriman analyst Tim Savageaux has maintained his “buy” rating on Nortel.
In a research note, Savageaux said:
“We believe Nortel has done more than enough both over the past two years and in a surprisingly strong 1Q to merit a revenue multiple above one [...]

    Numbers: Unit Sales

    Friday, May 2nd, 2008

Here’s the details on how each of Nortel’s business units performed during the first-quarter:

It is interesting to see how metro Ethernet sales are down 12% YOY and 24% sequentially given how the market seems to be fairly strong as consumers demand bigger pipes to access data, streaming video, etc. On the upside, carrier sales showed [...]

Nortel’s Q1 Results: Not Too Shabby

    Friday, May 2nd, 2008

(Disclaimer: Any attempt to quickly assess Nortel’s results are always tricky given the company’s approach to reporting its financials. Sometimes, what you see, isn’t always what you get.)
A first-quarter loss of $138-million will attract the attention of many people but there may be signs that Nortel is headed towards terra firma.
Stripping away a number of [...]

Nortel’s first-quarter results don’t come out until next Friday but there’s already noise that they won’t be pretty.
MarketWatch has a short pre-earnings story that analysts believe it will be a tough quarter due to “soft demand”. Nortel is expected to lose six cents a share (excluding extraordinary items) on revenue of $2.5-billion. The compares with [...]

    Number Crunching on NT

    Friday, April 4th, 2008

All About Nortel is a one-man show. I write it, produce it, script it, sweep the floors, etc.
That said, there are some really smart people who read ANN, and whose knowledge of Nortel and the investment landscape leave me in the proverbial dust. One of these people is Frank Burch, who, from time to time, [...]

    What’s Nortel’s Investment Thesis?

    Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

Sramana Mitra wonders about Nortel’s investment thesis…other than reducing costs.
“How the company gets turned around, is difficult to assess. There doesn’t seem to be any strategic guidance from the management, besides continued drastic cost-cutting. In contrast, at least 3Com (COMS) has an investment thesis, even though they have their own headaches with the government.”
    It’s a [...]
