Bo Gowan is Alive, Well and Blogging

Bo Gowan, who wrote Nortel Buzzboard blog, has launched himself back into the blogosphere with a new blog for Ciena called “Ciena Insights”. Editors’ Note: Bo, is that the best they could do? :)

According to Bo’s first post, Ciena has a few goals for the blog.

“We have a few goals for this blog. We’ll talk about Ciena press releases and news, but also provide you with some (hopefully) interesting tidbits of information and insights into Ciena activities that you won’t find anywhere else. We’ll give you a virtual look into our presence at industry trade shows and events, and give you some insight to some of our executives, technology experts and customers.

Most importantly, I hope this blog provides readers with a channel for questions, discussion and interaction about Ciena and the industry. The “target audience” for this blog is simple. This blog will discuss all things related to Ciena, so anyone interested in Ciena is my target audience – customers, media, analysts and even employees.”

Hey we got a brand new blog up on the first day after the acquisition…not a lot of time to brainstorm cute blog names :)

Thanks for the link Mark. Much like with the Buzzboard blog a few years ago, you're the first to discover the new blog.

  • thejudge2010

Mark, rumour has it your disclosing IP addresses to Nortel people….if this is true you should hang your head in shame

  • bankrupt_bob

    M C Hammer, is that you? ;>)

  • less

Its a shrewd play on words: Ciena Insights…. “Ciena Incites… Nortel Chapter 11″ anyone?

Ciena and Ericsson schemed to ruin Nortel. Need proof? Who bought Nortel's leftovers? Ciena and Ericsson. See Enna and Eric's son, the dude named Bo!

Nortel's execs had nothing to with Nortel's demise and thats a fact. They deserved and got bonuses for minimizing the effects of vaste conspiracies.

  • protospherical1

Ah… it is not easy being the bearer of bad news

As in any opposition to facilitate a balance in discovering the truth, one must respect our diligent members views or advocating.

  • protospherical1

If it is not true, will you hang your head in shame instead with your misleading accusations fabricating rumor…so bravely hiding behind anonymity to boot?

  • protospherical1

Don't lie, this blog is alive and well, it is you who is brain dead.

May I suggest you kill your posts instead and just go away to leave this blog alone =)

Now into the cornfield you go Moose… run, run…

  • Moose_Chaser

    Narf !

  • yes4aapl

    Good luck Bo.
I hope you are grown up now and will not mislead readers_public anymore.
Every one should have his/her second chance to better himself/herself.

AAN has been Nortel's de facto Buzzboard Vs Gowan's comment-less Propaganda threads for the “Believers”. Strange that Ciena should want and wait for a Nortel “this is the way” Notworks brain-washed outsider to be their ambassador..

Quote : so anyone interested in Ciena is my target audience – customers, media, analysts and even employees.”

    “Even Employees”… ha ha ha

  • dickster123

Bo Gowan – aka TongueInCheek = another ex-Nortel, useless smoke and mirrors expert.

  • Zhacknightmare

Surely he must get sick of peddling this.

Companies need Spin but generally use those who didn't work for such a prolific crash and burn.

Time to change name by deed poll me thinks. Aw Bongo sounds good, same letters!

  • exNTII

can see the Ciena Ciena employees squirm at the spin mill c r a p on their blog.

and I can see the Ciena Nortel employees squirm at the spin mill c r a p that continues from their old blog.

    either wayspin mill c r a p

  • exNTII

smoke yes they are good at that. clumsy with the mirrors though as it is all shattered.

  • protosphere

please..please. in the name of civility, don't accuse Bo of being TongeInCheeks relentless Nortel cheeleader, …how cruel (I wonder how John Roese is doing)

    Anyways, I don't consider journalists soldiers… sorry… they aren't the Hackney. Z's, and Dunn's of this world …

They might work for companies lacking credibility like the great engineers Nortel once employed but its only a job…what the heck

Ciena hired 2,000 Nortel employees, about 85 per cent of the Nortel workforce

Even though our sales declined last year (down 28 per cent to $652 million) in the downturn, we increased our spending

Philippe Morin, a top Nortel optical executive now working for Ciena
(Nortel paid Mornin $1.19 million total and $719,424 in bonuses/ Hackney $1.67M Zafirovski $2.3 etc..)

He (Smith) said Huawei is trying to do what bigger Western competitors failed to do, compete in too many market segments.
( Huawei is booming, growing, and making big money. Cisco is also doing fine. What is he talking about?)

The companies who bought Nortel should all consolidate and call themselves Medusa before they disappear too because anything Nortel touches turns to stone as their sales and profits plummet too. No offense Bo… brace some interesting opposition after Nortel ripped off so many and the acquirers also take their management =)

Employees are okay, and all, but its management alone that ultimately gets it done….

“Seventy-five per cent of the world's telecom carriers are now using Ciena equipment,” said Smith.

“We are number one in North America and number two in the rest of the world. We are a growth company.”

Smith told CTV Ottawa that operations in Ottawa are key to future success.

“The Ottawa research operation is crucial to our plans going forward and we have committed to a 10-year lease. We are here for the long term and we expect there will be significant expansion,” he said.

Ciena is now the king . Thank you Nortel !

  • exNTII

amazing to note how other companies see the value, take Nortel pieces and make a killing on growth as opposed to Nortel who had it all.

the amount of time it took to build up something like Nortel over decades will not be seen for a very long time.

  • ntpurgatory

Wonder where all the “I believe” people are today. “I believe” she's on the ocean floor!

  • headabovewater

Wow! Haven't been to this site in almost a year!! Bored this morning so thought I'd check it out. Incredible! You're still here. Nortel is gone man….forgeddaboutit! Find something else to blog about……let it RIP. Nobody cares anymore….not even its employees.

  • less

Not wanting to gloat or anything, but I would kinda like to hear them explain what ultimately happened to Nortel in their own words, and if they feel foolish, wiser, or what.
If anyone deserved severance, twas the Believers, not yer cynical, aloof and grubby NT execs.

  • freqmgr

Interesting about the 10 year lease. What did they lease and from whom? Hopefully not NBS; that would provide another function justifying a new “business” for the what remains of NT. Does anyone know if NBS is leasing properties to the buyers? If yes then they would seem to have a path forward to remain in business.

  • tommarguilisrenauldo

    Bo Gowan… jesus christ…. WTF!

  • tommarguilisrenauldo

I wann know what happened to the biatch Hackney slapped? Maybe Z was banging his wife from befind while drinking a cup of cuoofee on their morning rain to DC.

    This was bound to happen.

The judge acknowledged the testimony of the group that the deal leaves many with “uncertainty, helplessness and despair” and they believe “certain individuals will be unable to support themselves once their benefits run out.”

I totally feel their pain. So, whats my cut, hm?
