When It Comes to VoIP, Nortel Rules

What a weird week it has been for Nortel.

First, it announces the official launch of its super-duper 100G product; and then it’s selected as the VoIP Network Vendor of the Year in the Telecom Asia Readers’ Choice Awards.

“This recognition reinforces Nortel’s long-standing leadership in the global carrier VoIP and softswitch market, a position Nortel has maintained since 2002, according to industry analyst firm Dell’Oro Group.”

Just heard CBC news this morning that John Roth asking for 1Billion from Nortel, filing a case in the court now. Mark, could you confirm?

  • bankrupt_bob

But I don't think this is new news.

    Well I'll be -

    - sure enough, “VoIP” has been the core of “Nortel” all along.

Chasing Roth would be a witch hunt. He made it what it was during its peak. To chase him they would have to target the acquisitions that should be easily defeated on good faith. Chasing Roth would be grossly unfair, to persecute exorbitance than violation of any laws.

Dunn is another matter. He misled with intent. For bonuses. Resulting in the largest fraud lawsuit in Canada and one of the largest in the world, I call the very largest due to the levels of mass orchestration, to even keeping these bonuses, and paying even more, even after bankruptcy.

Roth would not be a target if the company was booming. Nor should he be one now that others burned it to the ground, not him… he was gone, not at the crime scene, and not leading a green team promoting pals with misleading hype on steroids. How is the past board still immune too. Can you imagine the premiums on $1B insurance for a company like Pinocchio Nortel?.

Being in CVAS, I know we are getting very close on the Stalking Horse announcement. Does anyone know who this is? I hear GenBand and Sonus but don't know that eihter company has the funds. I also hear the E/// is waiting for someone to be the stalking horse and then they plan to acquire our business.
Who out there can confirm or correct any of this?

  • zuperman

from what i heard, glasgow will be the stalking horse :)

  • wasthere

Another day gone and no stalking horse bid for CVAS. At least 4 months have passed since the first rumour.

This is the long and winding way(with lots of $$$ for people still getting paid with the creditors money ). This is Nortel ! A “legal” rip off !

  • wasthere

Yes confirmed. John Roth should now be called Johnny Rotten !

  • heavencanwait

If E/// is interested why wouldn't they be the Stalking Horse? Does anybody have the answer?

  • stuckincvas

Don't think the CVAS Stalking Horse will be announced by Dec 2009. From today Samih's email:”In terms of the CVAS divestiture, we are doing everything possible to emerge with a Stalking Horse agreement as soon as possible. We have the full team in place, working around the clock, to ensure the speedy closure of this transaction. At the same time, we continue to engage with multiple players who may enter at the auction stage.”

The whole NA team will be on vacation from next Monday. I guess this divestiture will not happen until Q1 2010.

A lot of talented colleagues are leaving now..

  • zeroman

    1 billion for what?

  • zeroman

you people still believe the executive spin doctors.

  • stuckincvas

Do you mean the truth is: CVAS is block sheep and nobody want it? BTW, we never believe SLT of Nortel/CVAS. They were keeping say ” a few weeks” from Jun 2009 and now change the word to “ASAP”.

Is Nortel successful in Latin America with CVAS?

  • random123

CS2K is deployed in South America.

Same reason they were not the Stalking Horse for CDMA & LTE: why show your hand to the competition before you have to?

100 million just like E/// paid for GSM. not a dime more. how much of the 800 million comes from new products? I bet not too much.

  • cvasSux

The cvas execs all suck and are clueless, Samih Elhage, Harold Graham and John McCready…All they're going to accomplish is to bring down all remaning Nortel employess with them…as they don't get a buyer…
I hope they get whats coming to them!

I think a class action law suit shoule target Mike Z and his previous cronies, why that is not starting yet? No lawer wants extra money or no case here?
