Where’s Ernst & Young or Nortel?
Here’s an interesting e-mail sent to Nortel’s employees in Europe and the Middle East about updates and layoffs within the region.
The curious part is the e-mail is signed by “EMEA Employee Communications”, as opposed to Nortel or the bankruptcy monitor/administrator, Ernst & Young
EMEA Restructuring Plans
The restructuring plans that have been taking place in EMEA have reached an important milestone this week. We wanted to give you an update on these developments in order to acknowledge the impact they may have in your interactions with colleagues in the various countries.
In France, a Social Plan has been agreed between the French Administrator and the Works Council. A voluntary redundancy program has identified employees, who have now been informed that their requests for voluntary redundancy have been accepted. We have also applied social criteria, in accordance with the Works Council established principles, for the remaining planned reductions. The intention is for all redundancies to take effect by the 1st of August.
There are German employees who have opted to join a transfer company in Germany. The majority of these employees will leave Nortel on the 31st July and the remainder will transition by the 1st September and 1st October. There will be ongoing negotiations with local works councils to achieve the planned reductions.
The Ministry of Labour has approved the proposed Social Plan for Spain which will result in employees leaving the organisation. The majority of these employees are scheduled to leave on the 31st July. We’ve also actioned redundancies in Russia with the majority of these employees leaving in July.
Planned restructuring activity has been initiated in virtually all EMEA countries in line with the planned redundancies announced by the business or the plans issued by the Joint Administrator.
