French Strikers Blow a Gasket

With frustrating mounting over the non-payment of severance, some Nortel French employees staged a fake bomb threat today by placing empty cooking canisters outside the company’s plant in Chateaufort, France with a sign reading “boom”.

The employees were upset after a meeting with Ernst & Young was cancelled.

Nortel’s French employees are asking for 100,000 euros (US$140,878) each in addition to their standard severance pay.

    What's your point.
Striking workers are allowed a minute of somebodys time so they can tell them something nice but not deliver anything more than what they had before the strike.
    It is too laugh.
    What a crock.

  • A_Peon

I am not making a point just giving people something to read about it if they can't read the french news.

for the delivery wait another few days and you'll be able to criticize again, until then give your couple neurons a rest they get tired quickly.

In the second threat by French workers to blow up a factory in a week, the paper said the workers had threatened to stage an explosion as early as Wednesday if their demands were not met, but said the gas cylinders were empty.

    re
    Peon, can you clarify that?
Was it your second threat or the article talks also about other company which did the same?
Everyone in NA reading that thinks it was your 2 attempts.
My understanding is that you tried that trick just once.

to be clear about that is last Tuesday (July 14th) we were at the campus battling for 4 days to get a meeting with E&Y but the french administrator had been playing tricks to us not allowing it.
E&Y are just assistant to the french administrator now that liquidation had been pronounced by the court. But as we are contesting what we call an orchestrated liquidation, the main people we need to negociate with is E&Y, the french administrator has just received a nice situation were there is no money just because E&Y arranged things for that.
E&Y is keeping in bank in UK, cash from NNSA 13M€. 8 is supposed to be 'on its way back to france”, remain another 5 M€ which they keep to secure their fees, which we can't accept as they are not creditors to Nortel.
Now this thursday there was one journalist visiting and we were frustrating not having been able to catch their attention yet. So in a discussion with this journalist we said we had been calling for help on our case being on strike for 8 days (day and night people at campus to maintain the piquet). and said frustrated (mentioning the other threat case) “now to get attention of the media you need to have gas bottles”. the journalist reacted more than intersted and asked “do you have some” and yes we did bring some empty ones back from the nearest petrol station. we just surfed no the buzz. this was never meant to be used in that matter but we caught the line the journalist was throwing. the next morning it was all over the headlines and we said immediately it was not serious (police was aware the night before)
So the second threat means we created the second threat of this kind in France there is no other thing planed like that.
And I can tell you we all felt disgusted to only be able to draw attention on what we call a fraud just by saying the words gas bottles. nobody was jumping around happy about that, but we caught the buzz, used the media because that's how it works.

well you had a high paying job for quite a while. assuming you were laid off last year, you alreayd made your package. only you had to work while someone else (who must have gotten a lower lumpsum) sat at home.

you got benefits. the other guy did not. you are still being paid since jan. the people who got laid off are sitting without any money, beneifts and are stiffed for pensions.

    you are still better off.

  • A_Peon

    What is your point ?
please try to make a structured response.
FYI I am far from having a high paying job.
Don't waste your time answering that it means I am a lousy angry employee.
Ok you don't like the french and you might have your reasons, I personnaly have a lot of friends in NA so what you think about us won't make me change my perseption of NA people.

    Conspiracy time –

The Pope (the average Catholic Pole, actually) is upset over (anything-but-the-Virgin-Mary) Madonna's scheduled Warsaw concert, which falls on Aug. 15, the Catholic holiday celebrating the heavenly assumption of the Virgin Mary, as she'll likely do her routine crotch-grabbing and sing “American (death to it!) Pie”.

Divine intervention? A crane setting up Madonna's show in Marseilles collapsed, killing two. Thing is, this happened soon after the French threatened to blow up their Nortel building,

AverageYanks (Ch 11 to them!) might chalk that up to yer typical Frenchie work 'tude, but I maintain the collapse could've been orchestrated by (American) competitors out to (truly) besmirch Nortel's name over there.

Does the venue have Meridian PBX installed, I wonder? Stuff like that…

To all of you belly-rubbing, granola-crunching, tree-huggers preaching going through the same courts for their stolen severance that approved the thieving execs' bonuses, read this and weep.

YES, the French tactics DID WORK. Bravo mes amis!

You naive sheep will surely get what you deserve – nothing.
