Nokia Siemens Tweeting About Nortel Deal

Pulling out all the stops to “sell” its bid for Nortel’s CDMA wireless business and its LTE R&D unit, Nokia Siemens is now using Twitter to distribute news.

And you thought Twitter was just for telling people about your Starbucks addiction!

    Bleed it and reap:

China-based Huawei Technologies has reportedly appointed a former Nortel (NYSE:NT) executive, Tim Watkins, as its Vice President of Huawei Western Europe. Watkins, Huawei said, will be responsible for sales and marketing in the region, as well as strategic planning for leading European operators. Watkins worked for Nortel Networks, as the company's North EMEA president.

as i remember, he also served in the BoD of Netas, Nortel Turkey prior to his current job.

"We have lately made a number of hires of some very talented technical experts and managers, including some for LTE coming from Nortel," says an Alcatel-Lucent spokesman. "Beyond that we are not going to comment on how many or in what areas."

Mhm. That would be negative press.

Matlin Patterson tries to get the responsibility of bailing out Nortel that the government did not do in the past. So why are they giving support to NSN via EDC. I think they don't want the Nortel brand as a canadian brand. For whom the fed gov of canada is working for?

Capitalizing on propaganda and government assistance deja vous.

I somehow do not feel positive about Siemen's participation and outcome.

    last!"

On June 30 I finally sold my 4920 delisted shares on the OTC for 4.2 cents $US per share.

Over $27K Cdn invested and came out with about $169 Cdn ...

Knowing when to buy - important
Knowing when to sell - priceless

I really SHOULD HAVE SOLD IN FEBRUARY 2004, when my NT shares had tripled in value.

Where did the 100s of $Billions of wealth go in this complete fiasco!!

  • FraudEqualsJAIL
John Roth knew when to sell.

    I agree on this one:

Reuters view http://bit.ly/90Dda - fyi if there's another bid it must be 'like for like' - can't be for all or different assets

too bad the link doesn't work, but since NSN already got it's bid in, the other bid will have to be very similar, so MP won't be able to put a single bid for the whole thing... I think
  • NTblinker
i think, MP will put a much higher value to CDMA to win the only auctioned BU, CDMA and LTE Access and then the judge will not permit to sell the other divisions so we can say MP' s bid may be around 1 or 2 B can cover all the units not to be sold to other parties. So this means they will gain the auction by putting an astronomic value to CDMA and then in formality barricade the other units selling off possibilities(this means they are worth only 1$)

    That link doesn't work.

Sure they can bid the whole thing, but they must itemize the bid so it is clear what they are offering for each piece since almost no sane bidder would want the whole thing, they will have to bid everyone on the individual pieces.

I still think MP is posturing and blowing smoke trying to drive up the price because first and foremost they are a creditor.

  • horace_grimswold
Where's Avaya? Enterprise deal was supposed to be imminent.

If the auction bidding process is as you say, and there are only 2 bidders (MP vs. NSN) looking for Nortel assets, MP could take their $1b offer and succeed by splitting it up:
    MEN: $1
    Enterprise $1
Wireless (against NSN): $1 billion minus two dollars

Buying a big division of a company is an extremely complex activity. You don't just get offers that you like right away. They are probably still negotiating an acceptable deal.

But just because there is no deal announced yet, Nortel is almost certainly looking at hundred million+ dollar offers on other divisions. So the $1 suggestion is just plain silly.

Most estimates put buying all of Nortel at 2 Billion or more. If MP wants it all they can start bidding each piece, first besting the $650 Million offer on the table for CDMA+LTE.

But it might be the end of MP. Assume they buy it all for 2.5 Billion. Next that have to finance the operation of Nortel. Nortel is a basket case and only getting worse as time passes. Most have written off Nortel and the massive delay as MP takes over and tries to come up with a resurrection plan would only accelerate the fall. MP clearly doesn't have what it takes to resurrect Nortel, no one does.

Again the only sane play I can see here is posturing on MP part trying to drive up sale prices. The only interesting part to see is if they will actually go as far as outbidding NSN, (hoping NSN outbids them) but that would be a dangerous game as MP has no idea what to do with this asset if they did win it.

    Did Avaya walk?
  • less
    I really couldn't say-a...
  • NTblinker
no more Avaya! or Nokia Siemens, MP guys have also chance to cross off their credits to Nortel from the debt list. These means much more bid against NSN. NSN is a topic model. Just appear and dissappear after a while. They have made their free ad also.

    hehe :)

@allaboutnortel - Mark - You're invited to Sue Spradley at Economic Club lunch 7/14 in TO http://bit.ly/ZC8Nh, at media table or 1 of ours
  • TongueInCheek
I think Mark should accept the invite, attend, then offer a fact-based and realistic update on this blog. However, I doubt he will go.

What "fact-based and realistic update" would you accept, as such, beyond Nortel is a recognized leader in delivering communications capabilities that enhance the human experience, ignite and power global commerce, and secure and protect the nation's most critical information.

Are any Nortel geniuses gonna show, or are they too busy? Doing what? Nortel is well on the right track to recovery. They could've hosted a few lunch and learns by now. Trying to save a buck or two, are they? Is the Club wired out with ozone-depleting Cisco gear? What?
