    P. Edholm ?
this guy is out of clue & out of touch. contributed nothing to Nortel
John Roese is much better than P.E

  • gone2moro

How much did they really invest in LTE, Wimax and PBT? Yeah they were a bust, but you probably got all three for less than was spent developing MPE… $150M waste of time… and lets not forget Optera Packet Core…what was that Phillippe…. a $300M waste. At least when they deciding to spend nothing on carrier the losses in R&D weren't so dramatic.

  • Teleguy

Thanks. There is absolutely no shame among these people. No one in Nortel R&D has ever heard of the two CTO rejects (who were fired). I have no idea why Nortel would need an “Incubation Program to help foster innovation” from someone who had no experience with Nortel or the telco market.. I think the Gov't probably has the same thing, so I guess there is always work there (it does sound like a Gov't program) The blind were hiring the blind because all the people who could have helped were fired over the last 10 years. I guess if the barrel is empty, you have to scrape it and get whatever is left to help you out. Story of Nortel: fire the competent and capable and hire the twits who are in it for themselves to pad their resume and move on.

  • TongueInCheek

You're kidding right? Do you honestly think that Mark is running this blog out of the goodness of his heart?

Frankly, he has a good strategy, even though I personally don't like it. Why not run a blog focused on whining, complaining, bashing and attacking as it draws more traffic which generates more advertising revenue which goes directly into his personal pocket. That is self-serving, but with a distinct purpose as we all can see that the vast majority of initial blog entries by Mark are repeats of other articles with a clearly negative edge to them.

Mark makes money from this blog, which is his right but it is also self serving.

  • Another_Nortel_Watcher

Because Alteon isn't the wonderful technology he was referring to?

  • Another_Nortel_Watcher

No, not Silver Lake. I know that Charlie G has a proper perspective on these jokers and on the clown who is still running Enterprise. The only gratification from seeing the Nortel Enterprise business sold off will be knowing how quickly the Choker will be purged.

  • Teleguy

    Hi Mark.

Maybe I missed your post, but did you post a headline on Roese's new consulting company? http://ictadvisorygroup.com/?page_id=68

I think this deserves a headline if you are posting Roese's blog.
    Thanks.

  • less

Unlike, uh, MIke Z who, uh, speaks for the benefit of all, and for free.

So why is Nortel's very own Buzzboard not awash with employee testimonials and customer satisfaction? Roese got, what, 2-3 blog responses? That vast Cisco Web conspiracy maliciously blocking the Truth for profit is bigger and eviler than feared.

  • dljvjbsl

I,m old enough to remember that being said about DMS. I recall eh comment “What's the difference between DMS and SP1. They're both computers”

It is a common complaint made by people who just want to do the same thing over and over again. Why do people have new ideas when it took so long for the rest of us to learn the old ones?

  • joremero

he probably got enough money from NT to start it

  • protosphere

By title Roes is called a “patner”
Heh, like patting or stroking people into believing.

This typo detracts from attention, detail, and reliability in the internet industry right from the onset. He really should have caught this.

  • protosphere

To claim this ” blog focused on whining, complaining, bashing” is profit driven for anyone's “pocket” is outright false, rude, slanderous, unethical, and so challenged it hardly merits a reply if I wasn't so shocked and appalled by anything you grossly post TongeInCheeks.

You are the only one who bursts a vessel when you lose an argument and maintains being rude as you have just displayed here yet again with such slander.

You have also astoundingly pumped this dog dead wrong over the years to this very day. Not being very polite flip flopping from patronizing to totalitarianly rallying support to bully.

I suspect you speculate on others' reactions judging them by your own to make such unfounded and false allegations. Your unethical conduct to attack ethical people exposes you here as crooked and a liar.

There is no great financial gain as you claim so challenged. Consider why anyone should pay for this web as a philanthropy to voice your lame opinions.

Exactly what is your vested interest to continually contradicting yourself from patronizing to personal attacks as this poor excuse for a company bites the dust into its final days you still deny while bashing the board you take the liberty to post on shamelessly.

Always selectively supporting how Nortel will survive, after it will restructure like it is a given, no bankruptcy, no fraud, anything but Nortel is bad. Anything contrary to the facts or you “personally don't like it”. What a spoiled brat, challenged, and unethical.

Well others don't like KoolAid Sherlock and they seem to be the majority. You have the option to pick up you ball and go play elsewhere if you “personally don't like it” you frustrated little twirp.

Mark may be too polite to ask you if anyone has told you yet today but I sure am not! Go ahead and ask, “told me what” so I can give you 2 words…

I think its the facts you are frustrated with Einstein. So… get your facts straight. I hear everything from racial slurs to trailer house political critics to you name it but this takes the cake in utter challenge because the ability to reason is warped and thus sinister in my view.

  • sick_sigma

Of course this blog is negative. In case you have not noticed, Nortel is in terrible shape. I do not remember any positive blogs about other bankrupt companies.

If you have some positive articles discussing how well Nortel is doing right now then why don't you post them here?

  • protosphere

“So why is Nortel's very own Buzzboard not awash with employee testimonials and customer satisfaction?”

    Exactly!
Most honest employees are fed up with the company.

And if Mark wanted ad revenue there are a thousand different better venues to generate ad revenues than a blog.

TongeIbCheeks speculates selectively wrong for years.
Pushes KoolAid rudely with a totalitarian and patronizing twist =)

  • protosphere

Do you think they are privy to accounting, able to legally disclose if they were, or just better trusted now that they are not there? Keep dreaming….but how utterly delusional is my take.

  • Another_Nortel_Watcher

    Ha ha ha… too true.

  • Another_Nortel_Watcher

To all the people who think this is nothing more than a Nortel-bashing blog:

This blog is full of people who have Nortel blood in their veins and only want – or wanted – Nortel to succeed. You don't support that passion by turning a blind eye to the problems any more than you cure cancer by pretending that it doesn't exist.

Yes, there are lots of trolls who post stupid comments in this blog but the rest of us recognize who they are and all the trolls accomplish is to highlight their ignorance,'

The problem with Nortel is leadership incompetence. Mike Z is not capable of running Nortel and the people he hired are even worse. Don't fault the people on this blog for recognizing that fact. Encourage them to be even more vocal because it seems that the board is deaf and blind to what has been happening for the last 3 years.

  • rfc1149

(At the risk of doing a 'me-too' post…)

The path Nortel has been on for the last number of years has inarguably failed. Saying so is NOT bashing Nortel. If there is to be any pretense of hope, Nortel needs (and has needed for a while now) an honest appraisal of its strengths and weaknesses.

Of course there is a preponderances of posts criticizing the current executives – that is the most glaring weakness. The emperor has no clothes.

I also do not see how criticizing MikeZ could be considered 'bashing Nortel'. 'Le Nortel ce n'est pas lui'.

In the last 20 years Nortel has had 6 CEOs – a new one every 3 years. While depressingly MikeZ looks like the last, equating the company with the CEO du jour is nonsensical.

Have I become your enemy by telling you the truth? Gal 4:16

  • broadbandbill

John Roese’s blog is miss-named; it should be called ‘The Opportunist’.

John Roese is NOT Nortel; NEVER will be Nortel and during his short and disastrous tenure did NOTHING for Nortel (while he did his best to increase his ‘visionary industry’ status). The fact that such ‘world class visionary’ can only muster up a blog (instead of a real job) just makes my many previous posts about JR that much more prophetic. The only hope he has is if (and only if) the Gores Group acquires Nortel Enterprise unit and combines it with JR’s former employer – Enterasys. Let’s move on, and Mark, puh-lease no more mentions of this useless and clueless self-serving opportunist…–bb

  • exnt_x_2

“Story of Nortel: fire the competent and capable and hire the twits who are in it for themselves to pad their resume and move on.”

Yeah. That pretty much sums it up. Bunch of clowns, really,

  • exnt_x_2

He he. Classic Nortel strategic thinking.

“If it's such a good idea, why hasn't anyone else done it?”

  • exnt_x_2

Just by quoting the christian bible, dude.

  • MikeZ_ElPresidente

Your spot on about Roese never being Nortel. In fact MikeZ and his crew were never Nortel. They did not feel for this company, their passion was about cuting costs and meeting targets for their bonuses, thats it.

All these losers are setting up web sites to make themselves feel important first Hackney then Roese.

Anyway Roese never contributed anything to Nortel and the sooner we forget about him the better.

  • Moose_Chaser

    Dude:

    It's over.

I suggest you re-watch “Nortel Downfall Part 12″ again.

What you say is true. But it is now, sadly, moot.

  • NortelEmp

Unless I missed it, looks like someone fixed the typo. Does that mean one of 'em is reading this blog?

  • NortelTragedy

Nortel would not be in this situation had its leaders followed the simple principles and parables provided to us in the Christian Bible. Leaders were instead led by GREED, which the Bible warns against. However, Mike Z is not the only one to blame, there were years of greed-driven leadership.

You know, all this is meaningless, anyway. No one will remember Nortel, Mike Z, DMS, you, me or anyone else. Nortel will at most be a couple of paragraphs in a history book. The hardware will be scraped and recycled and employees will move on.

    Everything Is Meaningless

1 The words of the Teacher, [a] son of David, king in Jerusalem:

    2 “Meaningless! Meaningless!”
    says the Teacher.
    “Utterly meaningless!
    Everything is meaningless.”

3 What does man gain from all his labor
at which he toils under the sun?

4 Generations come and generations go,
    but the earth remains forever.

5 The sun rises and the sun sets,
and hurries back to where it rises.

6 The wind blows to the south
    and turns to the north;
    round and round it goes,
    ever returning on its course.

7 All streams flow into the sea,
yet the sea is never full.
To the place the streams come from,
    there they return again.

    8 All things are wearisome,
    more than one can say.
The eye never has enough of seeing,
nor the ear its fill of hearing.

9 What has been will be again,
    what has been done will be done again;
there is nothing new under the sun.

10 Is there anything of which one can say,
    “Look! This is something new”?
    It was here already, long ago;
it was here before our time.

11 There is no remembrance of men of old,
and even those who are yet to come
    will not be remembered
    by those who follow.

Of course we could go deep and wide and with the timeless bon mot du jour: “To be honest, Americans are to blame for everything”

  • exnt2

I heard about the others. They charge in excess of $1000 an hour.

  • Friend007

    @NortelTragedy

    Everything is not meaningless!
Life is about learning and growing with that learning. Learning provides happiness. Life is not about who remembers whom or what the society thinks of oneself.

Every failure is a good opportunity to learn. Nortel Tragedy, financial market crash, etc is a good example to learn from. People in North America need to go back to fundamentals that made NA great!

  • protosphere

    That's the most probable cause.

Otherwise our resident mole, Judas the speculator, shot him an email.=)

…and not one thank you for pointing it out =)

  • vvvv

True, and this would be one of the arguments that Z and his team use to defend themselves… that Nortel had gotten very little return from massive R&D expenditures 2000-2005. Objectively, Frank Dunn and Bill Owens were no better at managing R&D that Z and his team were.

  • protosphere

All 4 of them are ex-Nortel people no longer there associated with the stigma of contradiction and corruption.

Refreshing their experience assisting customers cut costs unlike the green team at Nortel paying them to do so with product that may not be around. =)

  • Moose_Chaser

    Yup – agreed.

Right on…he focused on wireless with bias

overlooked reliability, security, and growing wireline throughput merits

didn't balance the pros and cons, surprisingly lacking greater elaboration. =)

I hope they read this too …to help them consult better =)

  • cooluswiz

Lets move on …from all the oldies who were part of the current status, either directly or indirectly —In short they were paid high salaries to make important decisions, but they did not do much rather came up with only one solutions..layoff's….they have no vision and did not care about Nortel. Our focus should be getting alternative trainings/certifications and move out of this mess as soon as possible…………

  • broadbandbill

Agreed! Z and his 'world classers' lacked vision, passion and execution required to have had even a remote chance of turning Nortel around. Sad truth is they will continue to lack these fundamental qualities/competencies and will end up hurting future opportunities while lining the pockets of their empty suits. I call it the Nardelli syndrome…–bb

Any news about the enterprise sales/buyer/what ever?

  • nblog

Maybe next week. It is not happening tomorrow

  • NortelTragedy

Going green? … the only thing green is the lining of pockets: Zudas, the BoD and SLT!

  • protosphere

Why isn't it happening tomorrow, after all this already from at least last week? We should have heard something by now. No?

Dare I suggest that it can not happen at all.

Contrary to contemporary expectations for cash, I should imagine not selling tanking units remain a distinct and obvious possibility.

Look how they stall creditors and hype customer to loot the corpse into a non-existent restructuring plan that is bonus driven.

Given it is bonus driven, even they are even in denial and they look like they are lacking some sleep.

Even this very plan, the proverbial elusive target of viability, the one creditors wanted to see before they circumvented them to approve other bonuses of all things, is dependent on what will be sold.

This only leaves how much time they have before their available cash runs out amid stalls /delays ( and note that they are also trying to selling their LG stake now to free locked up cash as things don't sound like they are getting better here.)

Yep, must sell more assets into bankruptcy to finangle another day but they can't, and before the judge /trustee steps in to try and sell it for them, if even then, when not if time runs out and creditors grow and grow.

Look how long they tried to dump Metro Ethernet, let alone for cash to get a glimpse into what we hear and what we see.

Even from the trustee, like I keep reiterating, short of any prehistoric patents, why would anyone pay a red cent to touch this stigmatized tanker with a ten foot pole when they can simply acquire their customers by attrition for free.

I am inclined to believe they will have insurmountable difficulty selling rapidly declining assets to anyone let alone for cash and that this is just another of their endless and desperate dupes.

I may be wrong but this is most certainly the way I see and this is not the first time I have swam against the contemporary tide to be proven correct =)

And If anything should be sold, lets see if NoTell dares brave the wrath of uncontrollable laughter to disclose a selling price =)

Look Proto. Some posters will accuse you of destroying Nortel and preventing sell off of the parts!
TiCheeek will be here in a second.
It's not Mike Z who have been wrong and destroying Nortel in last 3 years.
It's not B Owens who lost $500 mill in India and wasted another $500 mill on PECS acquisition.
It's not F Dunn and Co who cooked books and Nortel wasted $2.5 bill to settle the fraud charges.
    Don't worry my friend.
We posted warnings here to protect our friends and families showing all Nortel's misinformation targeting new investors and public in general.
Businesses of Nortel's size do not use public message boards to make business decisions. Diverting public attention from real reasons of Nortel's collapse is another story.
TiCheeek can show many own posts in which he fooled investors and public in last 5 years.

No, you are wrong, you did not follow Z man's style, he always breaks his promise.

    If Z man can follow his words, then it is exceptional;
If Z man breaks his words, then it is normal.

So, now everything is normal. Do you get it?

  • joremero

you can suggest that it won't happen, but it will most probably happen

  • http://nortelinsider.wordpress.com/ Desk Jockey

Agreed. So many of the executives that Mike Z brought on ended up being self serving wannabes who clearly just were in it for themselves, looking for the chance to pad their resume rather than make a real difference or improving the company. I guess that's what happens when you have a CEO like Mike Z, that is the sort of “world class” talent you end up attracting.
