Nortel shares climbed another 21%, or 6.5 cents, to 36.5 cents today on the Toronto Stock Exchange. For the week, it more than tripled. Interesting.

The wet blanket of Six Sigma absolved Mikey of all responsibility for what he has done to Nortel. After all, if the BB's said it would work and save tons of money, it had to be true.

GM ( General Motors ) CEO stepping down!

    Will Nortel CEO be next?

  • joremero

    gays or guys?

  • joremero

Have you read an article that GE “met” the earnings estimates everytime by “adjusting” the numbers by buying/selling assets using the GE financial arm? Thus when the financial ARM collapsed, GE couldn't meet the earnings any more. That was a dirt trick. Welch fooled many people, but he wasn't the man to follow as most used to believe. I believe forbes or fortune had that article.

  • joremero

so what about RIM? I thought they wanted LTE too

  • ExNtrl

Sorry don't get your hopes up. The other CEOs have integrity (step down, take a $1 salary etc). Remember you are talking about GEnius executives. How dare you even suggest such a thing? lol To even suggest something like that will make Jack Welch turn over in his grave (figuratively speaking).

so what about your small brain?
You have never thought you have a small brain, have you?

  • AcrimoniousAl

    Hilarious! Cheers to DJ.

Praise be, wouldn't I love to work for Northern Telecom again. I remember that company, it was a peach, and that Fitzgerald family, too. Now I work for some ballsed up company called Nortel.

Would be nice to find SOMETHING out this week, even the “Z” mails have stop coming..

    There would be
    no GE
without the Z – or Nortel
    sans
    the Hole Acne

  • danman

    haha

Wagonner didnt step down – he was pushed by Obama and his admin. Clearly, neither the Canadian or US govt really cares enough about Nortel to put any serious bailout on the table. Only the bailout gives them the leverage to change leaders.

At the same time, very few firms that have been through Bankruptcy protection emerge with the CEO in place. Given that all signs look like a split/sale, you have to believe the clock has long since started for MZ. Of course, Im sure he will have a cushioned landing. Cant believe the acquiring company would want to keep any of Joel, Richard or Philippe in place past a transition, but who knows?

  • joremero

are you bored of bashing NT that now you need to insult people? get a life

  • Got_Out

Interestingly, Jack Welch was quoted as commenting that Mike Z was never on the “Top Ten” exec list at GE. Mike, Joel and Dennis all had hit their peak in GE, which placed them in danger of being bypassed as others come up in their system.

Which of the former GE “stars” has gone on to any great success? Anybody?

Classic! This is one of the best! Keep 'em coming!

In light of Nortel's current stock surge I think it fitting that Dallas' “President George Bush Turnpike (toll road, natch)” were renamed “CEO Mike Zafirovski's Nortel Way (or perhaps “FREEway”; still a TOLL road, though) in his noble honor.

Reason: Bush is as much president as Mike is CEO

  • RichardCranium

You do know which President Bush that tollway is named for, don't you? It wasn't the last one.

Just as a thought, it's a really bad idea to inject politics into this blog.

Godwin's Law is the only law we must all obey!

My point: Nortel's Richardson campus is a stone's throw south of said Jorje Vush Durmbike, and the epicenter of the desolation of the town's once-proud “telecommunications corridor”. Its a pretty quiet place these days, and Nortel had generous hand in its falling asleep (again).

The fact remains we have no “President (of the USA) George Bush”, per se; there currently exist two former President George Bushes. Nobody calls the “George Washington Bridge” “President Washington Bridge” or visits “President Washington Monument”

Sure, Canucks and the French have rues de “President Kennedy”, as Southerners name all manner of stuff after “General Lee”. Euros remember Kennedy is forever ” ein Berliner”, just as the South shall rise again, fer shurr. Thats being “political”.

Kennedy died as acting POTUS; Lee didn't “retire” from the Confederate Army so he was a “general” to the end, one could argue.

I'm mocking the Believers who gaze raptly at the above spike in Canadian NT stock, taking it as gospel Nortel is irreversibly on the way back up, that Southtel shall rise again, and apply yet more lipstick to snout of the boss hog that is Mike Z. – CEO in name only.
