“It looks like poo, smells like like poo, tastes like poo, sounds like poo, feels like poo, handles like poo. Must be poo.”

“When you stop looking on the bright side, the catastrophe is still there”

    STOP!!!!!

This is the right way: “Poo is rich in minerals. And they are the only riches that truly count. God made all kinds of poo, and for many reasons. Its part of the chain of life!

..to feed flowers and plants… bacteria live in it… flies need it… its creation makes a vital contribution to our green world. Nortel! Nortel is green.

The “Mythbusters” have proven poo can indeed be polished. So don't look down on poo and its Creator, who has commanded: ' He who is without poo cast the first turd' “

This is interesting reading now that I'm not diligently working my duties in an effort to bring Nortel back to profitability. It amazes me the number of Nortel workers on this blog who seem to have sufficient time to read and comment on the world's perception of Nortel. Bottom line, you people at Nortel should be working at least 10 hour days to gain customer confidence back. I know many who are just searching for work, putting in time and waiting for the next cut. So as a customer looking in…..why would I want to invest in this company? Nortel has treated their loyal employees with disrespect by not paying out severances and customers are worried that Nortel may have no loyalty to them as well. It amazes me that 10 years ago CSAT and ESAT were around 85%…Customers used to comment….happy employees…happy customers. Nortel has lost all respect from the public. One good thing to note….if you are one of the 35 union members that still exist in Nortel…..you get 8 weeks notice pay. So you Nortel workers that keep asking others to stop using this blog for negative comments….my advice to you is…stop reading and commenting on this blog and get the Nortel “you believe in” back to profitability so you can still get your paycheck. Believe me when the axe falls on you…you won't be prepared and all your hard work will be worthless….I received a retention bonus last year and now I'm unemployed….amazing how there are still many low performers still employed at Nortel. Believe me this company is in trouble…

It's not a matter of choice. It's a matter of what the creditors will do. It's what they always do.

VoiceCon, the biggest North American Trade Show and Conference with a focus on Unified Communications is next week. It is very common to see many companies announce new products in the days leading up to VoiceCon.

This release http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Nortel-to-Showcas… gives some additional information on Nortel's presence at the show.

  • danman

what the creditors due when they have a company like aircanada by the balls. Air Canada had a bunch of old planes to liquidate and their debt was 2-3 times their assets. it took 18 months and as a last resort air canada had to fold and give the creditors a seat on the board with preffered shares.

Nortel is a different case. They have assets to sell.

  • protosphere

Optimism is admirable but you seem to believe in a failing company amid endless contradictions and profound pay practices.

The believers already failed to listen the the exhaustive substantiation we provided when we warned about the Koolaid.

Bankrupt and delisted from the NYSE to pink sheets today, what do you want? happy talk? We can't lie, there is no happy talk. Their debt to cash ratio is widening as others transition their customers.

They hired green CEO who defrauded his past employer form day one. After ultimatum fraud settlement he downplayed mega revisions that doubled, promote than fired his criminally charged buddy to employees horror and over a proven veteran. Endless contradictions frollowed form 3 to 5 year turnaround, growth, buying opportunities to downplaying bankruptcy which they did so shortly thereafter.

They gag employees, shareholders, analysts, to claim bonuses /trade options for cash while cutting severances, pulling a pensions waiver stunt, etc, It is so endless… and yet you believe.

As for the brainless trading, these are the facts. Take it or leave it.

    http://www.fool.com/investing/general/2008/09/1…

Buying shares of companies in bankruptcy monumentally bad idea. You're probably going to lose it all

If the company can't generate enough capital to pay off its creditors, then it will slide down the scale to Chapter 7, complete liquidation.

equity shareholders are quite literally the last people in line to receive something from the bankruptcy. They're behind the debt holders, behind the merchant creditors, behind the trustees, behind the employees, behind the tax man, and behind even the preferred shareholders.

In most cases, the company will have to sell off assets to raise money to pay creditors. In almost all cases, these proceeds are going to be insufficient to pay off all prioritized creditors in full (after all, why else would the debtor have had to file in the first place?)

So, potential speculators, bottom dwellers, and Dumpster divers, the answer is that as a rule, investing in bankrupt companies (or even soon-to-be bankrupt companies) is a horrible idea. I'm in fact baffled that the SEC and the exchanges even allow companies in Chapter 11 to trade at all — the implied return on the vast majority of these companies is exactly zero.

    http://bankruptcymaster.com/News/Bankruptcy/New…

“bankrupt companies, seem to trade, though nobody can give any reason why they should. There's usually no meaningful value left.”

SCAM ALERT. Troubled companies also often are the subject of rumors -or downright fraud by swindlers -in Internet chat rooms. The rumormongers hope to profit from a short-term rise in the stock price. “This is very common. I see it all the time,” says Brandt.

Managers of bankrupt companies often speak sincerely of their plans for a speedy turnaround, but these comments are aimed primarily at the company's creditors, suppliers, and customers — not the shareholders.

“BRAINLESS” TRADING. The temptation may seem compelling. But wise investors will be careful. The best bankruptcy strategy for all but the most daring is usually to sell, which creates a tax benefit, say analysts.

Better yet, advise most, don't buy the shares – no matter how cheap. Shareholders rarely do well in large bankruptcies of publicly traded companies, says Brandt. Trading these stocks is downright futile, “even brainless,” he says.

Sounds tempting, doesn't it? But given the great risks, smart investors may want to ignore this Blue Light special.

    http://www.marketwatch.com/

“It's very unlikely that a company will come out of bankruptcy without canceling its shares, especially if they have filed a reorganization plan saying that's what they intend to do,” said John Nestor, director of public affairs at the Securities and Exchange Commission.

“We are aware that people continue to invest and people lose money,” Nestor said.

  • protosphere

    why are you thanking anyone?

    and what people said this?

Sounds like the guy who accuses others of posting rumors

….speak of the devil, starting out with the negativity is incredible
Why so incredible when any optimism is profound instead

It is not like it is the bearer of bad news contradicts stalls downplays and lies for personal gain with callous disregard.

  • sick_sigma

Nortel is cast in a bad light right now because it is in bad trouble.

Look up the word “bankruptcy.” See if you can find a dictionary which puts a positive spin on that term. Good luck with that.

  • protosphere

It can catalyze spooking a flock of overly opportunistic to a buck, like Air Canada did but the bottom line remains zero, restructured or not.

Restructured they will cancel these shares worthless.
Chapter 7 they will be worthless.

Problem is, it is not as liquid on these volumes for those biting their nails thinking they can time the exit or find a greater fool to buy it higher which is the ultimate motive to trade, it is brainless trading.

  • biddut

    scarred,
I will have to agree with you. I do not see why PEON ( professional employee of Nortel) would come here and trash the company, in stead of being productive. So many things went wrong and we all are dissapointed. But making fun, being sarcastic will not help. People who are still in Nortel, should spend more time working then complaining. If this is something we do not like, MOVE ON with another company. For those, who lost jobs, I can't say anything since you are entitled to be angry and I am sorry. But this website is supposed to be an informative website.. not a punch bag.

  • joremero

For some reason I've sen many people from other countries always say thanks even when they are the ones helping others… weird, I know.

  • joremero

cmon, there's gotta be a reason for the 2-day jump… though CC had a similar jump right before liquidation lol (not implicating anything here, just a comment)

  • nortel_cn

I believe this message comes from management team, at least one manager in here broadcasted such a message on a meeting before I left office today.

“Thanks” for your reading and replying if any.

  • NTblinker

Today's(late march) are the days the business plan being ready to be reviewed by the creditors. I am sure there are some good news for NT.

  • NTblinker

    – MOVE ON with another company. Is this really easy?

Are you a manager? because you talked like a manager.

I would like to say sth to you that if you don't like this world then MOVE ON with another planet.

  • NTblinker

When you get laid off, we would like to hear your feelings about the process.
    Complaining or Working?

  • slk

Move on? I don't think there is anywhere to go in this economy. Most Nortel employees are just hanging on until the bitter end for this reason. Don't think they aren't looking though…

  • biddut

    so am i

  • ibelieveinnortel

yes i agree with you biddut…complaining doesnt help and further more it decreases morale at the company when other employees come here to read that their fellow employees are so negative, we just don't need this right now espeically at this crucial time for Nortel.

  • biddut

    i agree.

  • USS_Nortanic

Complaining does not help but blindly following a bunch of thieving executives does? Watching your colleagues be thrown out on the streets with no severance while the executives pay themselves millions helps?

ibelieveinnortel, you are surely a Nortel trained manager likely based in Ottawa from the old BNR days since you are indeed sheep-like in your postings.

Negative postings have NOTHING to do with the company sliding into Chapter 7/11 since the terrible financial statements having nothing to do with emotions.

Thanks the Lord I do not report to a naive brown-noser like you that spews out the koolaid speech as the campus burns to the ground.

  • USS_Nortanic

You must be an employee of the moron manager from Disneyland.

  • rfc1149

    Venting IS healthy.

There is a lot of very well earned frustration with Nortel's executives. Having a forum to do vent is extremely beneficial to Nortel and large number of its employees.

  • USS_Nortanic

You forgot a few more options:

    4) Brown Noser
    5) Moron
    6) Sheep
    7) Terrified at the real possibility of having to find a real job and not have time to surf these blogs each day posting utter nonsense on the company time

  • biddut

Who? I am expecting to lose my job at any day just like anyone else.
However, I do not whine like you. If you did lose job, I am sorry. But
whining here will not help. You can be in politics and then try to stop
injustice. This website is for information about Nortel and that is what it
    should be.

  • rfc1149

Have I become your enemy by telling you the truth?

Loyalty (to Nortel) is NOT mindlessly following the clowns who happen to be leading it this week.

I (and many many other employee) are educated, intelligent professionals. We are paid to use our brains, not follow 'leaders' lemming-like off the cliff they are leading us to.

  • biddut

I am sorry if I offended you. As far as venting goes, yes that will help. But I am one of you did not get promotions, who lost a lot in 401K and NNSPP. Do not think your situation is unique. I am not a manger but blaming managers or directors will not since they were not the decision makers. If proving me a jack-ass/selloff of whatever helps you with venting you anger, go for it. I can understand that. Peace.

  • biddut

You are not my enemy. We are/were all in same boat. We will sink or swim
together. Do not know what else to say.

  • mohican

    Well said NTblinker.

“Move on? I don't think there is anywhere to go in this economy. Most Nortel employees are just hanging on until the bitter end for this reason.”

Yes there are jobs out there for those willing to go find one. Perhaps all those inflated salaries of people who have been there pre-2000 have given a false sense of entitlement. Welcome to the global economy and increased competition.

You can't seriously blame the bad economy for current Nortel employees being in this hanging-in-the-balance predicament. Foolish thinking at best.

  • mohican

    It's called ALL ABOUT NORTEL.

There isn't much (any I think) positive to look at. If you never noticed, company morale was very low BEFORE all of this.

    What do you expect?

  • rfc1149

Nortel has a number of different problems at different layers.

There are definite lethal problems at the director level (at least in product development). There is still tremendous amounts of waste. I am aware of groups where 50% of R&D has NEGATIVE customer value-add. They support 'ballast' – projects they keep around so that they can be cut without impact to the 'real' program. They spend their time politicking and empire building, not striving to do the right thing for the company and its customers.

And this is one of the problems with Nortel's 'decision makers'. They are incapable of understanding the problems 'below' them so are incapable of fixing them.

  • rfc1149

I certainly don't consider you or 'IBID' enemies either. The point of the quote is equating loyalty with mindless following (executives, politicians) is dangerous. (Plus it is my favorite Bible quote, so I try to use it whenever possible:)

In IBID I see a viewpoint that I very strongly disagree with – the 'linear' view of human psychology (popular with managers and depressingly teachers amongst others).

The view that the human mind is simply a 'linear' function of what it is told – so if you repeat a statement enough times it becomes 'true' ('you are a happy Nortel employee', 'you are a happy Nortel employee', …)

While this can work with trivia ('Skopje's the capital of Macedonia', 'Skopje's the capital of Macedonia', …). It is absurd and often counter-productive when applied applied to anything more sophisticated.

If it particularly ineffective when blatantly disagrees with behavior – smoking parents telling their kids 'smoking is bad' or executives telling employees to make sacrifices while arranging massive bonuses for themselves.

  • sadsosad

anybody here with some further background information from the hearing today. Looking at http://chapter11.epiqsystems.com docket #538 it seems another part of nortel is going to be sold, soon.

  • nblog

That is just the Alteon piece which closed today.

  • grindstone

If the comments offend you, don't read the comments. Many of us find this a useful place to vent our frustrations away from our employees, managers, and team members. Those critical of the negative comments here seem to think that we have only one mindset, but you can bet that although I'm bitter and cynical here, I continue to provide the best service I can to my customer and hope for the best tomorrow.

So stop trying to stifle us, please. We're facing a very shaky, possibly bleak future –and a job market glutted with hungry professionals, so give over with your “move on” comment — and having an outlet here beats the heck out of taking it out on our customers or our loved ones.

  • joremero

I think that the fools that wrote this article don't know anything

    http://www.rttnews.com/Content/CanadianNews.asp…

“…Nortel (NT.TO) soared 81.8% after the company was granted permission by a U.S. bankruptcy judge to sell its data-switch business to Israel-based Radware for $17.7 million….”
how the hell getting $million is going to push the stock 13 cents or so? There's something much much bigger going on

  • joremero

    I think so to…
bu wasn't it going to be sold for 50 million? now 17.7 million? that's crappy

  • nblog

No it was always to be sold for 17.7m. See the story from Feb 24 below

    10-for-1 reverse anyone?

  • NortelUlcer

Please stop the denial. The Nortel ship is sinking fast and nothing is going to stop it. From the Zman and the top executives down to the mid level managers, nothing is really being done correctly. They are not focused on their customers, righting Nortel, or taking care of their employees. My team was hit yet again last week. So a team of 13 is now down to 4. The 4 of us have 5 managers. Too many Chiefs and no more Indians left…..

  • NortelGal

Absolutely. I continue to work hard in my job at Nortel. I keep my nose to the grindstone during my working hours, I am productive, and I get good performance reviews. I do not read AAN at work.

When I am at home, I am free to do and say and think whatever I please. This blog provides information, laughs, and the chance to share our frustrations with the company's decisions. It's a lot healthier to vent here than to live in a state of denial. Let's face it, Nortel as an employer is not what it used to be, and that's putting it lightly. That doesn't mean that I don't enjoy what I do there day to day, because I do. What I dislike is the larger environment in which I have to perform my work. This blog does not change that. It is what it is.

  • NortelGal

scarred, I choose not to work 10-hour days since Nortel has chosen not to pay me severance or benefits if they lay me off. I prefer to have a life outside of work as well. However, I do work diligently during my 8 to 9 hour days, and I do not read AAN at work. Don't assume that all Nortelers posting here are doing so during working hours. Some of us are actually working to help our customers. I'm also not job-hunting during working hours. Looking around at my co-workers, the vast majority are still working hard for the company, even though we are very frustrated with all that is going on with the company and especially with the executive team. At least in some areas of the company, there's a lot less pissing and moaning going on than outsiders might imagine. A lot of us are just trying to get the job done and keep bringing home paychecks for our families for as long as we are allowed to before being shown the door.

  • NTInfidel

IBIN, you crack me up. The irony is delicious.

You drop devils advocate posts that stir up a Hornets nest. Just look below. With one phony cheerleader posts, you stir up 10 angry anti Nortel posts. With just a few choice posts you are probably responsible for half the bile on this forum. You are the master.

I am getting a real education on how to really turn opinion against a company. Taking a cue from the master, I plan to try this on the Next CBC story on Nortel.

In the comment section I will play a koolaid drinker and defend the Nortel executive and see what happens.Though I don't think I have IBINs stamina to keep up the charade. Just one or two posts… I will report back at my success and we can compare notes.

Anyone else want to try the IBIN system? Simple really. Pretend to defend the indefensible and you get 10 times as many people wanting to crush it.
