Nortel Adds Another Blog

Greenroots Nortel’s social media efforts took another step forward earlier this week with the official launch of a new blog, Nortel Greenroots.

Written by Wilson Korol, Greenroots is “devoted to all things green with respect to our company and industry”. The fact Nortel launched a “green” blog is not surprising given how green has played a key role in Nortel’s marketing efforts.

“Greenroots is not going to be just about touting green excellence in those areas we are doing well” Korol wrote. “It is also going to provide as transparent a window as possible into our continually green journey. Obviously, this is a perpetual journey, as we are always looking to use resources more effectively, thereby reducing costs, consumption and waste while delivering ever improving customer service. If you have ideas about how Nortel could be a greener company, please let me know.”

Nortel now has four blogs, including Phil Edholm’s Enterprise Technology blog, which hasn’t been updated since Jan. 20, and the Voice Security Blog. Nortel may want to take down John Roese’s blog given he was dismissed last November, and Nortel no longer has a CTO.

Say what you will about Nortel’s management team, financial performance and strategic focus but its social media efforts, led by Bo Gowan, have been a silver lining in an otherwise bleak picture.

As usual, POLITICAL CORRECTNESS has reared it's ugly head and has now finally corrupted the incorruptible; Desk Jockey !

Perhaps his identity has been revealed and he fears for his job – who knows !

I anticipated this and I have DOWNLOADED AND SAVED all the “Downfall” videos, which I believe are excellent satire (thanks again DJ).

Anyone wanting the videos, just send me a note… Moose Chaser

when you made them you must have thought through. so keep them on. otherwise you should not have made them in the first place.

it is funny like any other spoof show so keep them on.

FYI regarding John Roese's blog. We do have plans to take it down soon. However his blog was popular enough that there was a good level of traffic still going to it. Once it gets down to a certain level it will be removed.

PS – thx Mark (and others in the comments) for the kind words.

Relax MC. I have not been corrupted. I did what I did because I genuinely thought that the videos were causing bitterness and divisions in the company, these are things that I do not want to contribute to.

However after seeing the overwhelmingly positive response based on the poll I have decided to restore the videos.

Sorry to anyone for the confusion and hope you all enjoy!

    (Unlike AAN and DJ)

Nortel is a recognized leader in the Fairness Doctrine that…

“…grew out of concern that because of the large number of applications for radio stations being submitted and the limited number of frequencies available, broadcasters should make sure they did not use their stations simply as advocates with a singular perspective. Rather, they must allow all points of view. “

Mike Z has always shared his universal pain with all every Nortel employee evenly and transparently via his large applications over unlimited, hyperconnected frequencies.

Mike listens to everyone, all the time.

Nortel is working on a new blog “Green Restructuring Cost Reduction Energy Saving Doublespeak I Believe Social Networking Zombie Technology Executive Bonus Hyperconnectivity Blog” It will be a “super blog” including all things relevant to Nortel. Think of it as a one stop Internet porta-pottie for Nortel.

    ALL RIGHHHTTTTTT !!!

You know, I just KNEW that KNEW that Desk Jockey was a REBEL and a MILITANT, like the rest of us !!!

    THANK YOU DESK JOCKEY !!!!!

One day, you will be able to tell your grand-kids how the failure of Nortel was you spring-board to success !

I will tell you all this: Yes, Nortel is doomed.

BUT – YOU are what made Nortel GREAT ! Without YOU, the Empty Suits will DIE, as they should !

I have been around Nortel “for a while”…long enough to know that what Nortel DID WRONG was:

    1) The never realized what STANDARDS mean to the business and how TCP/IP changed their corner on PROPRIETARY things like Meridian

Having a blog around telecom technologies and their evolution seems like the sort of thing Nortel really should be doing. Not that this could possibly negate all the negative news but at least there could be some positive.

And even in the absence of a formal CTO, there still remains 'technical leadership' (I presume/hope) in Nortel. For example I presume the 'fellows' and 'sub-fellows' could write something interesting/useful/insightful and I presume when customers ask 'what does Nortel think is the evolution of technology X?' there are people who can say something intelligent on the subject.

    THANK YOU!

Maybe you can give it a try with Dumb and Dumber (MZ and JH)

I wouldn't put it past Mike Z to throw money at an Asian company that made telco cable from hemp cord and jute fibers.

    Bo,

Feel good marketing aside, I think a lot of Nortel's software expertise is applicable in to such initiatives as so called “smart grid” technology, smart battery/storage management, and other growth areas such as air traffic control, and securely digitizing medical records etc. All of these areas depend heavily on software techniques that are Nortel strengths; communications, real time embedded software, security, context passing, protocols, software architecture and change management ad nausium.

I am not saying that nortel should go it alone in these areas, but it seem s like providing base software capabilities (sort of a red hat model) for companies that want to target some of these market verticals and need secure, highly reliable, well organized and documented software (and possibly a market channel) under their own brand might well be a win-win.

I have wondered for a while why Nortel seems to stay stuck in a consolidating space (not that they should abandon telecom)

Again, I don't see the current crop of executives thinking strategically or tactically using the resources they have effectively.

    Would that make it “hemp-erconnectivity?”

  • protosphere

    What “new structure” ?
    What “new equity holders”?

    Today's Wall St. Journal Story:
“Nortel Networks Corp. is in talks to sell its two main businesses to rivals, a sign the firm could break itself apart rather than emerge from bankruptcy as planned.”

…and not one thank or apology you over the years… heh

  • Got_Out_Years_Ago

Hence lies the problem. You are actually defending leaving a blog in place of an executive that left NT in November. All of you over there are standing around talking, planning, and sending meaningless emails.

There are people that do, and people that talk. Big Hat, No Cattle. Great book here, check it out.
