Mike Z.’s Media Update

If you missed it, CEO Mike Zafirovski talked to several media outlets yesterday – some of which is highlighted by Nortel’s Buzzboard blog.

I wonder when AAN is going to get some time with Mike Z? My sense is likely never but so is life. :(

    It is amaZing to me that Zafirovski won't grant you an interview. I am also surprised he won't even talk to the buzzboard.

    How's that book coming Bo?
  • Actually, I'm not surprised Mike Z. won't give me an interview. I think I'm more of a thorn in the side of Nortel. A nice thorn but a thorn nonetheless!

    Some of the commentators are definitely a thorn to Nortel, however you seem skeptical but fair. Zafirovski is a just plain old failure and at this point if he were actually the GEnius black belt ninja he claims to be, he would confront his demons.

    Softball interviews will only fuel the fire.

    I'm agonna get me a black belt.....with a big 'n shiny NT silver buckle adorned with sapphires......

    Sorry Mark, until you learn to be a yes person and a brown noser, you won't get an opportunity to interview the Zero crew.

    You have too much integrity for the Zero to want to talk with you.

    But if you really want to talk with the man, send him an open letter. I am sure he and Joel read every letter and email sent to them. After being inspired, the GEniuses will assign a black belt to review the opportunity.

    Mark,

    If you want to get some face-time with Mike Z, you'll need to increase your truthiness to such a point that you'll alienate your core audience of readers. Between the choice of delivering propaganda or news reporting, the sacrifice of not getting on Mike Z's calendar is one that will probably have to be taken in order to preserve your blogalistic (journalistic?) integrity.

    They seem so proud on Buzzboard that Mike managed to get into the Wall Street Journal talking about layoffs and bankruptcy. I guess any publicity is good publicity.
  • exnt2
    as soon as Pavi came on board I left. he is a good CFO but at breaking up companies and selling them off. once he came on board, it was writing on the wall that something started ticking in Z's brain.

    What's a pavi?

    Sounds like something is coming down the pipe sooner than May.
    "Zafirovski said: "NT hopes to announce them in May, but that could change, he added."

    Also another conflict with:
    "Nortel's restructuring needs to be accomplished sooner rather than later"
    vs.
    ""We are moving with speed, but we are not moving in haste,"

    "He didn't rule out future rounds of layoffs."
    Which sounds to me like operations are winding down as soon they can ti find a point of operability however improbable. It is his job to try.
    He must have his hands full with Binning, who helped with Marconni.

    Lets face it, bankruptcy or liquidity crisis is never good news.

    Hoping for the best is futile where we can expect Chapter 7 as creditors and suppliers draw the last straw, orders decline to a catalyzing degree contrary to their claims, and they scramble to see what parts of their scaled down business are salvagable enough to make them marketable for cash leaving nothing left for most anyway.

    "We are moving with speed, but we are not moving in haste," – Zafirovski (WSJ).
    That was Obama's line during his presidential election speech in Chicago’s Grant Park. In Hollywood, we call it plagiarism.

    These guys are simply amazing; can’t even create their own lines, how are they going to create a restructuring plan. All Show and No Go! Empty, empty suits...--bb

    I hope for all of our sakes that Mike got control of himself for these media sessions and put in a better performance than the internal GIS where he was completely laughable if it wasn't such a serious issue for all of our futures.

    I know he is macedonian by heritage but he reminds of Jean Chretien (former Canadian prime minister) who everyone used to laugh at because he was so abysmal in english and french. However, Chretien was a complete bully and hatchet man behind the smiling, aw shucks, little guy from Shawinigin facade just like our leader.

    Its nice to read such a moderate view from Bo. I hope he is right and I am wrong.

    (first draft)

    Mark,

    Your blog is not (yet) on solid footing. If Nortel went under (which it will most assuredly not; believe us), AAN would soon follow. Business-simply put, this means we have you right where we want you to be. Like our customers, you are at our mercy.
    Your blog lacks Super Admins, Root Admins, Admins, Staff Writers, Advertising Writers, Super Moderators, Root Moderators, Moderators, etc. The list goes on.
    All you offer is Internet space - space Nortel provides - for anonymous contributors to spew vile invective against Nortel. For free (because they want to work for Cisco?). But 98 out of 100 consultants will tell you there are numerous synergies to be leveraged here.

    To be truly succesful looking forward, the AAN pyramid should be inverted as per the Nortel Model. Each contributor must be assigned a Super Admin, Root Admin, Admin, Staff Writer, Advertising Writer, Super Moderator, Root Moderator, Moderator, etc. and each contributor must pay each account manager a fee just for being there for them. A fee is levied whenever a post is made. Conversely, when no post is made, a fee is levied.
    Black belts will ignore the content of all posts, but instead monitor "Quality of Sosts" by tallying letter count to determine the additional "energy tax" to be levied upon the contributor(s). Its only fair that hard workers are rewarded for using more bandwidth.

    And all and any typos are to be taxed unless made by non-native English speakers such as our dearest friends, the Chinese and Indians.

    Finally, all IPs orginating from Nortel shall be recorded and forwarded to Nortel HR to accelerate Nortel IP Recovery.
    .
    Success is believing, believing begets succces,

    Mike Z

    You got the right idea but are not complete.
    this blog needs to follow the 7x12 model.

    layer 1) super admin (mark) -> 12 x root admins
    layer 2) root admins -> 12 x admins
    layer 3) admins -> 12 x staff writers
    layer 4) staff writers -> 12 x adv. writers
    ....
    layer 6) moderator -> 12 x contributor
    layer 7) contributors

    even then, we'll need each contributor to go through a green belt training to work along side black belts, whom might or might not know anything about blogging.
    Consultants will be brought in if the super admin, or any of the root admins can't figure out what to do and how to run a blog.

    .... More great ideas to follow

    Great idea. You now 'Own IT!" Make it happen. You have 1 week, or we give you a "Least Effective" and feed you to the Believers.
  • less
    We're "In the Zwn!"

    I'm particularly proud about having "QoS" now translate into "Quality of Sosts" because that way we save changing 30% of the abbrevation "QoS" out there in the hyperlether into "QoP".

    But I think 1 week is a tad too short to find solid footing, 36-42 months would be a reasonble amount of time to build the blog here, then break it down into silos and outsource 'em to the lowest bidders.
  • NortelGal
    KEIP all around for these brilliant ideas! Less, you are indeed More. :)

    you need to get your nose a little dirty to get some time ;)
