Beefing Up MEN
Network World’s Jim Duffy has an interesting article looking at how Nortel signed a deal that will see it resell ANDA Networks’ Ethernet terminal equipment.
ANDA’s products will be offered through Nortel’s metro Ethernet network business, and will be targeted at small customers.
According to the article, Nortel says business spending on Ethernet services will be $17 billion in 2008 for service providers globally, compared with less than $2.5 billion in 2004.
In other MEN news, it was interesting to see a press release that Nortel’s 100G equipment will be used as part of a high-performance network at the annual SC Conference in Austin later this month.
One of the things that Nortel is touting about its 100G technology is carriers can beef up capacity without building new networks or installing new fiber. Instead, they can upgrade from 10G to 40G and to 100GB. In the wake of Nortel signing a bunch of 40G deals recently (SK Broadband, Bell Canada, Alaska Communication Systems) it will be interesting to see how much traction its 100G products will get.
