    tic – tac… 176 days left

  • less

I didn't read anything new in that article…

  • Buy Nortel

    176 days left until what?

  • Tongue.In.Cheek

The following snip comes from ucstrategies.com and a market research report released in June:

Looking at the total revenues of all the UC components, worldwide Total Gross or “UC-capable” revenues for Unified Communications is expected to grow from $9.52 billion in 2007 to $15.9 billion by 2012, for a compounded annual growth rate of 51.5%. The portion of the growth rate expected to be purchased and used for UC solutions, representing the Net or True UC market, will grow from $200.8 million in 2007 to $2.433 billion by 2012, Professional services will increase the product revenues by 18% in 2007, reaching 40% in 2012.

Is we assume that Nortel's future is primarily based on UC, we see from this report that this represents an excellent growth opportunity. The question then becomes … How is Nortel going to execute in this market?

  • Daphne

Nortel is notorious for not executing and not delivering. IF they go to market, it will be a product that, a) doesn't quite work properly; b) doesn't have advertised features; c) underperforms versus advertised capabilities.

One more nail in the coffin.

Are you saying you only have 176 days worth of Tic Tacs left?

  • Tongue.In.Cheek

Perhaps you can share with us some specific examples of how Nortel is failing today in the UC marketplace? That would be far more valuable than the blanket statements you are making.

    from IDC report

“…Deeper integration with Microsoft's Office Communications Server platform will also be a key focus area. Nortel believes that having more Microsoft OCS qualified technicians than its competitors gives it a key advantage in this area. However, it is far from certain that Nortel will be able to hold on to its lead here, as competitors are rapidly growing their own relationships with Microsoft and others, negating Nortel's initial first-mover advantage….”

until NT runs out of cash and will have to file Chap-11, then another competitor can buy it cheap and w/o debt.

tic-tac 175 days left until death

  • The Left Behind

the additional question is if NT will be able capture a portion of that growth/revenue while the core business (PBX, IPT) is declining… the competitive landscape will be different
