Bullish on NT

It’s difficult to find many people bullish on NT these days but Charles Carter is one of them.

In an opinion piece on Seeking Alpha, Carter suggests “The future of Nortel is bright and hyper-connected”.

Note: Carter has a long position on NT.

Carter says to ignore the charts.
    What?

Tough to do given its trend. I might point out to him this might also reflect outlook.

He is bias with a contradictory explanation.

Charts don't lie, why stick ones head in the sand as he suggests, is it because his disclosure indicates he maintains a vested interest in Nortel. So we stick our heads in the sand like him, then what, at 10 cents presplit that a pretty tall order. Share price is almost irrelevant it is so low anyways let alone making new lows with decreasing cash and worsening outlook.

What pumping Unified Communications/hyperconactivity will save the day any more than so many of their endless aspirations to contradictions. Here, John Dvorak already dismissed some of that crap right here from a multiple of its value he wants us to ignore:
    http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/microsoft…

Perhaps most important of all, “The future of Nortel is bright” (who is he trying to fool here, that's hysterical and contrary to contemporary thought) Contradictory he admits “Perhaps most important of all, Nortel appears to be working hard to stay solvent” No “perhaps” about it here, so how can they have a a “bright future” if they are not around strikes me as contradictory in the very same breath.

So when can we look at charts again before turning to stone? Can we look at the chart when they can not sell MENs or after they announce they can sustain operations in the foreseeable future when some one pulls the plug?

“The consensus in blogs and articles on the net is that Nortel is comprised of too many technology sectors without having a sense of the technologies longevity.” That's one heck of a way to say they are spread to thin as their business tanks. Trying to be everything to everyone is the least of their woes at this point, it is too late and they increasingly lead no where with escalating decline everywhere from derisking LTE like WiMax and monetizing MENs to pay for more ongoing layoffs in their losing struggle to live another day. How can traditional apirations work this time given even better hope in past failures?

I also love the way he neglects the most important element of aging CDMA decline he termed “technologies longevity” that accounts for the majority of their earnings /while already losing money for a decade. More important than what hyperconactivity or UC combined can ever generate for this decline. Even MSFT showed recently hos PBX is threatened with their new software.

Nortel is way past the point of catch-up let alone turn around as cuts or selling assets, layoffs, etc., are not enough, even if they could afford them. Cuts and selling MENs will not have enough impact to save the day than just buy another, as a smaller company, even if they could sell assets or print more liability laden paper.

They have no credibility with endless aspirations to contradiction let alone this lame never mind the charts nonsense. May I suggest to ignore a single word Nortel claims instead, like 3 to 5 years, single digit growth, 20 buck buying opportunities, etc.,than the charts, and do indeed look at the charts as proof.

More importantly how they reflect outlook, as well as keeping an eye on declining cash as they fight insolvency at a fraction of when last neared folding.

Even CEO is freaking right out in primal scream to his employees which leads me to suspect this contradicts “customer support” that are instead increasingly going on strike reflected in their numbers /revisions to forecast /cash decline /orders/etc/. and need for this very speech to begin with, etc…

K… never mind the charts… even history… lets debate outlook then even if his hypercon and UC actually did work for once. Outlook their most pressing issue ref;ected in the charts he wants us to ignore. Ya right…

The best part about your posts proto is there is no need to read them, they're all the same.

Question for you – If by some miracle Nortel was able to turn it around, would you be happy?

  • protosphere

The diatribe is negative for any ongoing event when it comes to Nortel. Same old, sure.
Sounds like you do not like to be reminded or warned. Maybe you should ignore charts too then.

Also ask yourself if you would be happier if we posted happy talk by the sounds of things.
Would I? Nope. Why? Because I feel they are corrupt and only reason they trade is to minimize further damage, or they would already be gone.

Perhaps you should read my posts about their bonus-gate, pay practices, promoting pals, defrauding past employers, setting specs against competition, forecasts and buying opportunities, the people still there, insider CFOs, ethics officer departing, slandered Gary, etc., endless to see if this level of corruption or deceit deserves continue support to disappointing in a free market with a moral majority. Boring, outright a broken record, lest we become retention challenged.

Market conditions are one thing, fraud is another, this is where I rest my case. As Bush would say, you are either with us or with them.

I also reiterate crooks are stupid, no offense.

  • protosphere

We have been saying that since they restated a restated restatement years ago for Q205, who listened.

Done is an understatement at around a quarter of when they last neared folding at 43 cents.

Sure, we can say they are done. Toast, FUBAR, going to zip squat nadda zip nuthing the big oh zero etc… I would be more surprised if they made it, or even sold MENs which I rejected the second it was announced like triple profits misleading or $20 buying opportunity.

I do not like being told ignore the charts by another rogue cheerleader, I believe that is misleading too. Perhaps, even merely pointing this out might be overkill at this stage for the boat they are in.

We will not be posting much longer about Nortel if they can tolerate to bear with us during these trying times, no pun intended about that bear part =).

  • curious

I've read many of your posts, both here and on yahoo, and I don't necessarily disagree with most of what you say, the facts do speak for themselves. I just wonder why the obsession and if Nortel was to turn around, would you be pleased? But I guess Nortel has done so much damage to so many people in so many ways in the last 10 years that I couldn't really blame you if you are waiting for her to die a slow and painful death if you are one of the ones that has suffered.

However, consider that the people that are there now are not the same ones that defrauded shareholders. Maybe they are good people for the most part that are trying their best but are failing. I'm sure out of 30k employees there are still rotten eggs, but that would hold true of 30k employees of any company. But there are a lot of good people that work at Nortel that don't deserve to be labeled as crooks.

Who is Charles Carter and why should we care what he thinks of Nortel?

Those who are bullish here; I expect you're busy liquidating your assets to buy NT stocks. I'll almost bet some of the bears here would gladly buy some of your tools. At a fair price, of course.
