Q&A wit Bill Me Later’s Gary Marino
By Mark Evans | October 13, 2008
Gary Marino spent eight years with Bill Me Later before finally cashing out last week by selling the company to eBay for $945-million.
He did an interview with VentureBeat, providing some more details into the history of Bill Me Later. Here’s how he got involved with BLM:
I ran into this company, which was funded by Crosspoint and Nortel. The business model wasn’t that good. I had to convince the VCs at Crosspoint that it would not be very successful. They asked me to stay on and rebuild the company. They had about 90 employees. We started from scratch.
From this story, it looks like Nortel was bought out in 2001 when Azure Capital Partners recapitalized BML.
