Papageorgiou Keen on Q3/Q4

Don’t worry if Nortel’s Q2 results fail to give its shares a jump-start.

Scotia Capital analyst Gus Papageorgiou said Nortel’s third and fourth quarter results will be better with impressive performances from its optical and enterprise units.

Papageorgiou rates NT as a “sector perform” with a targer price of $11.50.

    Here ya go!

The Canadian telecoms equipment manufacturer can't make its new 40 Gbit/s cards quickly enough to meet customer demand.
Nortel has developed the ability to upgrade existing 10Gbit/s per wavelength networks to support 40Gbit/s per wavelength with no other change to the infrastructure, apart from the addition of new network interface cards themselves.

And light is vastly cheaper than Cisco's copper-based stuff. The only thing thats dimming the light is global warming caused by for-profit oil wars.

I'm so totally off base here: 5 people out of 11 ("here" and/or "there") is 45.454545%. Or something. Certainly not 30%, or 20%. 11 can't even be divided by 5 evenly. Its all rumors. Innuendo. Lies. Case closed.

Is it just me, or should tongue in cheek change their name to tongue up MikeZ' a....well, you get the point.

You can try to downshadow it all you want but bottom line is that layoffs are still happening. May not be "global" number, more like group numbers. But if you are part of that 10% you probably don't really care if you are a global number or a group number. Bottom line, you are a number. I know of one "group" that lost 5 people (out of 11) the first of July. Try explaining to those people that the layoffs are a "rumor". Or better yet, maybe tell all the IMS people that got laid off last quarter so Nortel could sell it's soul to the devil that it is just a rumor. Or perhaps the PV folks. I'm sure they all think that layoffs are a rumor.

I know, I know; not like he demise of all global corporations is a Fact, as is peak oil, global warming, Age of Aquarius, free health care via Obama, who happens to be the new messiah...

I vaguely recall writing "30% here", "20% there" which doesn't amount to "all of Nortel, across the board". Talk about yer laughable generalisations.

More specifically, assume the manager of a group of, oh, say, 11 employees - he in fifth place under Mike Z - is rumored to be expected to cut his staff by aforementioned 30% "here", ergo 3-4 people.
Its rumored that the reason for this is because less work and money is coming down the pipe thanks, in part, to sales and stocks, which, in turn, means the next group of folks in the chain over "there" will quite logically have less to do as a result. So you can 'em.

Brilliant! Rumors ... not facts. Then the use of percentages against a small number of people in order to exaggerate and make things sound far worse than they really are. Well done!

Two calls from displaced Nortel employees immediately gets exaggerated out to a 20% to 30% layoff. What a joke but not uncommon on this blog. 30% of Nortel's staff is almost 10,000 people. Do people here honestly believe that Nortel is laying off 10,000 people?

Layoff rumors are indeed spreading far and wide. 30% here, 20% there.... a steadily growing presence of Far Easterners learning the ropes in the US labs... trips to Vietnam pending...

Nortel and ALU are in the same kind of trouble. ALU chiefs announced they are stepping down today. No time right now but I have some thoughts on leadership fundamentals and why ALU and Nortel are in trouble. Not a judgement on quality of leadership, more a comment on type of leaderhip required.

Lay offs!! That is a good news. It will better shape up their financial condition.
I am confident that with 40g and 100g optical solution nortel will be able to boost sales and revenue/profit.
    Thanks

Nortel is going through a big layoff, I got calls from two Nortel folks who were gassed today. Also, all travel and other variable expenses require approval from presidential level. Methinks they are still in trouble.
