Some Comment Decorum, Please
By Mark Evans | June 14, 2008
Here’s something pretty amazing: since the new comment system went live a few months ago, there have been 1,416 comments on AAN.
That’s impressive, and reflects the passion, enthusiasm, frustration, disappointment and interest in Nortel. Most of it is constructive, articulate, objective and critical while being fair. A small number of comments, however, are unfair, crude and offer nothing to the conversation other than a rant that, frankly, crosses the line.
I’m not big on moderation because it’s feel strange to be managing the conversations people are having, and it would take time that I just don’t have. That said, I am willing to delete comments that I see as objectionable.
You can interpret “objectionable” any way you want but if you make a comment that comes across as inflammatory, for example, with no reasoning or constructive comment, think twice about posting it. There are lots of forums out there teeming with people engaging in flame wars. Go there, have fun, and say what you want to say to your heart’s content. But just don’t do it on AAN.
While I don’t need to defend how AAN operates, I will apologize in advance to anyone who feels this is unfair or unnecessary. I write AAN because I enjoy it and it’s good to be part of a passionate community. I hope you respect that when you comment.
