Hey, We Need Some More Bandwidth!

I just came across this CBC news report (Hat tip to Nortel Buzzboard) about how the Internet is apparently headed for a massive traffic, which CBC anchor Peter Mansbridge breathlessly opines “could slow the Internet and, possibly, mean the end of the Internet as we know it.”

It’s not surprising Nortel loves this kind of report, which just by coincidence involves Nortel executive Philippe Morin, given it just came out with some new whiz-bang technology that will make all those “Series of Tubes” bigger and faster.

For more, check out the Ottawa Citizen’s coverage.

Once IPTV hits in 2009, internet bandwidth will get chewed up very quickly. Imagine every home in civilization having telepresence technology (HD video for near real time video/voice calls). Its not hard to see surges of traffic taking down the internet.
