Bye, Bye Dave Murashige?

Just wondering: if Ravi Chauhan is Nortel’s new global multimedia applications leader, what does that mean for Dave Murashige, who is/was vice president and general manager, multimedia applications?

I'd say he's toast! His new role is that of VP of Channel Development or something like that. He wasn’t moved into that role for being a rock star for MA. What makes anyone think that another Sales Leader will turn this portfolio around? We all saw what Roxanne Swanson did with the portfolio! What a rock star she was. Dave didn’t perform the necessary surgery. He released products that need patching right out of the box followed by another patch, and so on and so on and so on. Its bug ridden. Ravi needs to dump products that aren’t making money, and get innovative with whatever is left. Given his many years of product development, I’m sure he’ll right this ship in no time. Not!!!! Dave will probably end up at Cisco with his old pal Roxy unless Joel Hackney has something up his sleeve but the last time I checked, his sleeves were rolled up to slap a University student and there was nothing hidden up there. I heard seombody saw a GE tattoo though. Dave will be sent packing with a nice little bundle of cash from the same pool that Z, Hackney and Lowe paid themselves from. The Ravi move isn't about fixing a bug ridden portfolio; it’s about selling into the Asian marketplace and capitalizing on regional revenue. It'll still be the same bug ridden garbage that is sold in NA but the bonus is that the Asian customers will be able to understand the support techs; something our NA customers don’t have the luxury of anymore. Hopefully Ravi has a can of pledge with him. He’ll need it to polish the casket for the messaging products which we are currently number 1 in the marketplace for. RIP Call Pilot. We'll save a space in the family plot for UM2000 and SIP Contact Center too.
Didn’t Hackney say that CSAT was a “must do”. So why is it that since his and Mike’s arrival, CSAT continues its decline? Do ya think it’s the products themselves or the support to India and Turkey that has an effect on CSAT? Hey wait, support was Hackney’s call too!!! How many Nortel badged engineers are left to support this portfolio? I’ve heard that our outsource support vendors outnumber our internal support experts and that we have an attrition rate of 70+% in India and Turkey. How can we sell best in class support to our customers when we can’t sell “Sticking around” to support engineers overseas?
2 years into the 3-5 year plan and the only thing we’ve seen are re-orgs and a tumbling stock. Good luck Ravi…..see you at the funeral in 12-18 months.

It may mean that Murashige was a Slattery appointment and has been flushed by Hackney, probably because he isn't an LSS drone.

Slightly off topic here, but Mike Shedlock does a great job of describing what I've been describing about the slowdown in the US. Its going to be a lot worse than most people still think.

Financial System Broken – Markets 'Utterly Unhinged'

But let's not be too gloomy here.

Other than overleverage, bad debts, sinking home prices, no jobs, shrinking wages, cash strapped US consumers, rising oil prices, a sinking US dollar, $500 trillion in derivatives not marked to market, rampant overcapacity, underfunded pension plans, looming boomer retirements, no funding for Medicaid, no funding for Medicare, and no Social Security trust fund, everything is just fine.

And even though the Fed, central bankers in general, and governments combined to create this problem, the irony is nearly everyone is begging for them to fix the problem by encouraging still more speculation in housing, commercial real estate, and the markets.

Sorry folks, it's the end of the line and payback time for the world's most reckless financial experiment in history.

I guess Dave's job was one of the 1,000 being outsourced to cheaper countries…only 999 to go…:-)

“ntslowlydying” actually provides the answer in his comment below…though you might miss it among his other chatter. Dave Murashige isn't going anywhere. Quite the contrary, he's been asked to head up a new global role in the Enterprise Solutions business as VP of Enterprise Solution Channels.

    LOL!

“It'll still be the same bug ridden garbage that is sold in NA but the bonus is that the Asian customers will be able to understand the support techs;”

I'd also like to point out that Ravi used to work for Wipro, who Nortel has been outsourcing to for some time. This is very significant. It is not just about selling to Asia, it also makes outsourcing jobs from USA/Europe to “lower cost geographies” that much easier if the head of MA is already there. It's the logic of globalisation – so don't listen to any lullabies from Mike Z about a few job cuts then a turnaround. The only jobs in NA/Europe in 3 years time will be for a few salespeople (if Nortel survives that long).

BoGowan is right. Dave is moving to the Enterprise Solutions business as VP of Enterprise Solution Channels however his comment about ” Dave Murashige isn't going anywhere” is one's perception only. I for one believe his new role is a temporary placeholder. (Again, another perception)

The MA product portfolio is stagnant and suffering somewhat and perhaps it is time for a change to provide a new perspective and experience to the product line but my fear is, Ravi will have a learning curve to run through which will allow some of the low performers in MA to hang on that much longer, something Nortel cannot afford. I'm real curious to see where Ravi takes it but I also expect him to make changes in very short order.

In regards to NtDying's comments…let it die. it’s OK to be bitter but find a more constructive way to voice your concerns. Let’s look forward…not back.

He's scheduled to be on a panel in voicecon in Orlando this week, topic is contact centers, so seems like he is still in the enterprise biz working for NT
