      Umiastowski Goes Bullish on NT

      Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

TD Securities analyst Chris Umiastowski has gone bullish on Nortel - a week after Scotia Capital’s Gus Papageorgiou came out with a $30 stock price target.
Umiastowski upgraded NT today to “Action List Buy” from “Buy”, while maintaining his target price at $28.
Here’s his reasoning for the move:
“After rallying with its strong Q3 results, Nortel’s [...]

      Updates on Comments

      Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

Since switching to Disqus a few weeks ago to jump-start All About Nortel’s comments system, there’s been some pushback, particularly about the fact the “Recent Comments” widget isn’t being updated.
I wasn’t aware until a few days about this problem so thanks to those of you who pointed it out. I touched base with Disqus to [...]

      Roese Blogs on Nortel 2008

      Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

Nortel CTO John Roese has posted his first blog post in a month (John: someone’s got to monitor you!), and he provides a nice overview on what’s happening on the telecom landscape and how Nortel is positioned to, of course, capitalize on it.
Here’s one paragraph that caught my attention:
“And, we will see the IT [...]

      CDMA: The “Betamax” of Wireless

      Saturday, January 12th, 2008

You have to love a Toronto Star story today that describes Telus’ contemplation of moving from CDMA to GSM as “the wireless equivalent of moving from Betamax to VHS”.
I’ll give the reporter, Chris Sorensen, points for creativity but it’s a bit of a stretch given Betamax lasted about a decade before pretty much disappearing while [...]

      Can Apple Save Wi-Max?

      Saturday, January 12th, 2008

According to ValleyWag, Apple could launch a new ultra-portable notebook at Macworld this week that will include WiMax. In fact, Apple may roll out WiMax to all its MacBooks.
Would that be enough to save or jump-start WiMax? It would help but WiMax needs a lot more support to really gain momentum.

      What’s Happening With NT

      Friday, January 11th, 2008

So, what’s happening with Nortel shares this week?
The stock has dropped from $14.78 to a 52-week low of $12.09 ($1.20 taking into account the 10:1 stock consolidation) before starting trading today at $12.51. There has also been heavy trading volume.
Is the decline related to concerns about the health of the North American economy? Are there [...]

…Meanwhile RBC’s Mark Sue Less Bullish

      Thursday, January 10th, 2008

While Gus Papageorgiou is gung ho on Nortel’s prospects, RBC analyst Mark Sue is far more cautious.
In a report, he said Nortel is “appropriate for long-term minded investors” due to a competitive landscape, industry consolidation and a weak balance sheet.
In the short-term, he has a target price of $16 with a “sector perform” rating.
      Source: National [...]

Scotia Bullish on Nortel - $30 Target

      Thursday, January 10th, 2008

Scotia Capital analyst Gus Papageorgiou clearly sees something many of his peers don’t as he has anointed Nortel as his “Top Pick for 2008″ with a $30 price target.
In a report titled “Valuation and Business Momentum are on your side Buy the Stock!’, Papageorgiou explains that his bullishness is based on the fact “Nortel has [...]

      Nortel’s Lonely Blogger

      Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

Much to my surprise, Nortel has another blogger - although you’d be hard-pressed to find him on Nortel’s Web site.
Tony Rybczynski, director of strategic enterprise technologies, writes a blog for TMCnet called The HyperConnected Enterprise. It’s a real blog with interesting and user-friendly posts that appear on a regular basis. I’ve added Tony’s blog to [...]
