      Motorla-Nortel?

      By Mark Evans | August 29, 2007

      Motorola
In a nice, speculative post, 24/7’s Doug McIntyre raises the idea of Motorola buying Nortel.

He figures it makes sense because Nortel’s stock has tumbled to about $18 from a 52-week high of $31.79, which gives it a market cap of $8-billion. As well, McIntyre said Nortel’s carrier networks business is profitable so Motorola could make the acquisition work by slashing costs in other areas or selling off divisions.

Motorola could increase the size of its enterprise businesses by 50% by acquiring Nortel, and it could build the area where it has a chance of continuing to make money. Maybe Samsung would buy the MOT handset operation.”
