Bush Nominates Mike Z. to Advisory Committee
By Mark Evans | July 12, 2007
If Nortel is serious about getting more U.S. government contracts, a good sign is President Bush’s to nominate Nortel CEO Mike Zafirovski to the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee, which provides industry-based analysis and recommendations on a wide range of policy and technical issues related to telecommunications, information systems, information assurance, infrastructure protection, and other national security and emergency preparedness concerns.
According to a Nortel press release, Zafirovski “would serve as a resource for the President and his national security team in efforts to safeguard critical U.S. infrastructure and telecommunications networks”.
Nortel’s efforts to get a bigger chunk of U.S. government contracts took a big step forward in 2004 when ex-CEO Bill Owens supervised the acquisition of systems integrator PEC Solutions for $448-million in cash.
