Nortel Wins $135-million Wireless Contract
By Mark Evans | July 10, 2007
Cricket Communications, a unit of Leap Wireless International Inc., has awarded Nortel a three-year contract to supply it with CDMA2000 1X and EV-DO Rev A equipment to expand it mobile voice and data services across the U.S. (And who says GSM is ruling the roost these days!)
The deal is valued by Nortel at $135-million, and allows Cricket to earn credits that can be applied to future products and services.
Nortel claims its Rev A technology lets users receive data at burst speeds up to 3.1 Mbps and send data at up to 1.8 Mbps with significantly lower delay.
