Nortel’s Back in Enterprise Game
By Mark Evans | May 25, 2007
After dealing with flat or losing market share for the past four or five years in the enterprise market, Nortel CEO Mike Zafirovski said the company has rebounded to become a strong contender for the number two spot behind Cisco. In an interview with eWeek, Zafirovski said Nortel started to turn the corner in the third quarter of last year, while enterprise networking revenue climbed 34% in 2006. In many ways, the enterprise market has been Nortel’s obsession since it bought Bay Networks in 1998 - a deal that ex-CEO John Roth believe would catapult Nortel into the top ranks of enterprise suppliers. Needless to say, the past nine years have been a constant struggle but it’s good to see Zafirovski bullish on Nortel’s prospects.
