Nortel Squeezes Former Unit
By Mark Evans | May 23, 2007
Disclaimer: if you’re looking for a happy-happy post about Nortel, no need to read on. If you want to read an interesting tale, this one is good.
Tom Keating writes the popular VoIP & Gadgets blog. A little while ago, he wrote a post about Blade Network Technologies, which Nortel sold last year to a private equity firm. (Nortel did keep a small equity stake) According to Keating, Blade wanted a new phone system, and selected an open-source Asterisk-based solution from Fonality instead of using Nortel’s own PBX. Blade agreed to talk with Keating about his decision. Even though Nortel sold most of Blade, it didn’t stop a Nortel director from complaining to Blade about its choice of supplier, and then demanding Blade return the Fonality system. It’s a long but really interesting story about Nortel and how the blogosphere can sometimes play a key role in making news.
