Asian Equipment Sales See Strong Growth
According to In-Stat, telecom equipment sales in the Asia-Pacific – a market where Nortel, along with every other major supplier, has high hopes – will grow 4.6% a year to $47 billion in 2007 from $43 billion in 2005. The growth will come from the expansion of networks in China and India, the roll-out of high-speed Internet access networks in developed markets such as Japan and South Korea, and the implementation and extension of 3G networks (China is seen as the big prize as suppliers wait for the Chinese government to make a decision about 3G licenses). In-Stat said intense competition meansmeans suppliers need to differentiate themselves to win business by excelling in a focused product areas or providing comprehensive choices and end-to-end solutions.
