    Nortel Out, MetaSwitch In

    By Mark Evans | March 9, 2006

So what should one make of Butler-Bremer Communications, a small carrier in Iowa, deciding to replace its Nortel DMS-10 TDM switches with four softswitches from MetaSwitch as part  of a network migration to a IP packet-switched environment. “We’ve tracked the evolution of the market closely, and we are convinced that the migration to a pure packet environment is the direction of the world,” said Rich McBurney, a general manager with Butler-Bremer. While Butler-Bremer is a tiny player, it is interesting the company went with MetaSwitch rather than upgrading to Nortel’s softswitches.
