Nortel Wins Cingular Deal
By Mark Evans | February 14, 2006
Cingular Wireless has given Nortel a three-contract to supply it with 2G and 3G equipment and services. While terms of the deals were not disclosed, it would be a major win for Nortel given it was surprisingly left off the list of suppliers when Cingular announced its UMTS contract in late-2004. “There is no question winning a deal of this size with a tier one operator like Cingular is huge for us,” said Richard Lowe, who heads up Nortel’s wireline and wireless carrier business. “It is reinforcement rather than redemption for us. There is no doubt this is big.”
