Nortel Shows Off High-Speed Wireless Technology
As wireless devices are used for more than just voice, Nortel is hoping to be well-positioned with technology that can deliver high-speed traffic between two wireless devices. The company is doing demos of its commercial UMTS base transceiver station that Aeroflex TM500 handset simulator to produce calls at speeds of 1.4Mbps – four times faster than current UMTS services. This would allow wireless users to use services such as VoIP, video streaming, real-time high-def gaming and large file exchanges. Here’s a Light Reading story on the demo.
